October – November 2020: Here’s the October Newsletter, slightly delayed due to a technical glitch to which, thanks to our esteemed webmaster, we have a work-around fix.
In this edition there’s a report on past events, an excellent article by Remo and a short article on the Dunning-Kruger effect by me. Muthana has also contributed a discussion piece around global warming and Roger continues his trip up the Douro. David Kauders has contributed an excerpt from his forthcoming book (always good to see new contributors – thanks a lot David), Christian gives a Covid-19 related perspective on investments and Joe gives us a view of mask use for the forthcoming winter sports season. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks again to all the contributors for their time and effort, and for putting up with my editing.
As always, suggestions for new articles will be gratefully received.
August – September 2020: Welcome to the August Newsletter. Due to Covid-19, the events section is consolidated in the Editorial – but please note the Summer Party on 23rd August at the Siehbachsaal from 11:00. (register on the Club Website here) and the “History of the Industrialization of Zug” with Apéro and Vineyard Tour on 29th August. Registration is also required.
In this edition there are articles on Biodegradability of plastics from Remo, a Smart Home project I did during Covid-19 lockdown (just because I could), an article on Discrimination by Muthana, a travellers perspective on Porto by Roger, a really interesting (and much more productive) lock-down project by Chris Hill and a report on hiking in the Tödi region from Joe. I hope there is something interesting in it for each of you.
As ever, thanks to all the contributors for their time and effort, without which the Newsletter would be a dim shadow of what it is now.
Suggestions for additional articles are always welcome.
Stay free of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and keep healthy.
June - July 2020 : This Newsletter is a little shorter than usual due to the pandemic. There is not much in the way of “Events” news and the normal Travel & Leisure section is missing. However, there’s still 12 pages of information and entertainment for your edification and delight, much of it with a Covid-19 theme. Muthana has contributed an article on the history of pandemics, Christian gives his perspective on the investment climate, Remo continues his series on protein sources with his article on artificial meat and Joe has an article on alternative uses of ski masks. I have an article on living with Covid-19 and there’s the usual Humour section.
As always, my thanks to all the contributors for their excellent articles. If any of you have any feedback or suggestions for the Newsletter, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
April - May 2020 : In this Newsletter there is (of course) an article on the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, an article from Remo on future protein sources, a short article on AI and a longer article on Mother Tongues from Muthana, a contribution from Roger on his travel in Iceland and, last but not least, an article from Joe on the premature end of the Ski season. In addition there is the usual Humour section and an abbreviated Events section.
Thanks to all contributors for their work - it's much appreciated. Enjoy the read, and remember, feedback or offers of other contributions are always welcome.
February - March 2020: In this first Newsletter of 2020 there’s information on the AGM on 27th February. We would very much like a good attendance at this meeting so you can contribute to the decisions on the future direction of the club. There’s also info on the planned ski trip (and how to register) and the ZWIC Spring Dinner Dance to which IMCZ members are invited.
There are articles by Remo (protein sources of the future), Christian (Investment), myself (measurement standards from 1799), Muthana (Telepathy), Roger (Iceland Islands) and Joe (practical equipment tips for Skiing). The humour section returns to normal.
Thanks to the authors for their excellent contributions – and enjoy the read!
