10km hike around Menzingen and along the River Sihl with IMCZ Member Chris Reed

I am organizing an easy hike next Saturday morning, 19 July. A mostly flat 10 km course that will take about 2.5 hours. The walk will cover two beautiful areas of canton Zug that will be new to some of you.

The first four kilometers will be through the agricultural hill country in Menzingen. The uniquely smooth round hills there were carved out by glaciers during the last ice age. Many of them are topped off with a single large lime tree and look like something out of an imaginary world in a video game. When I walk along and see the farmers making hay in such a peaceful agricultural region, it is hard to believe it is still canton Zug.

Then the next six kilometers will be on a shady path following along the Sihl river, the body of water marking the border between canton Zug and canton Zürich. The portion of the river we will pass along includes the Sihlsprung, an interesting narrow, gorge-like section with cliffs, caves, and waterfalls.

The meet up time is 08:55 on Saturday, 19 July at Caffè Spettacolo in the main hall of Zug train station. We will take the 602 bus up to Menzingen, departing at 09:08. Expect to finish around noon in Sihlbrugg and hop on the 631 bus to get back into town.

Besides IMCZ members, spouses, friends, and children (suggested age 10 and up) are very welcome to join. You just need comfortable walking shoes and a water bottle.
