Board 2010

President: Patrick Weber

Patrick grew up in South Africa and still tries to visit the country at least once per year. He currently works for a software company that develops, sells, implements and maintains its own core banking system, primarily in Germany, Luxembourg, England / CI and Switzerland. He has previously been CIO of a financial services company in Frankfurt and Luxembourg, and spent over ten years travelling around the world managing core banking system implementation projects for Credit Suisse. He's married with two young boys and his hobbies include golf, wine, cigars, reading and travelling.

 

Vice President: Lars Bertram

Lars is 43, was born near Cologne in Germany, and grew up in Lörrach near the Swiss border. He worked as a hotel manager for around five years, then made an abrupt change to the security business. In this line he worked in a management position in Nuremburg, Germany, overseeing some 500 employees for around 15 years. He then moved to Switzerland to launch a new security company as CEO four years ago. However, he got tired of working for other people and made a job out of his favorite hobby; last September he opened a shop in Zug for single malt whiskies. Lars has no children, was divorced in 2000, but says he now has a great new partner who supports his obsessions and tics. His main hobbies are single malt whisky, golf, and motorcycling.

Secretary: Muthana Kubba

Muthana was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. He was not quite 18 when he won a scholarship to study engineering in the UK and returned home in 1962 with a PhD from Imperial College, University of London in communication, electrical engineering. After finishing his national service at the Iraqi Air Force, he joined the staff of the College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, where he stayed until 1978 when he emigrated to Switzerland, just before Saddam Hussein came to power. He founded a successful trading company in Steinhausen, whose management he has now passed over to his son. Muthana is married with three grown up children and five grandchildren. He enjoys skiing in the winter and boating in the summer as well as cycling all year round.

Treasurer: Max Leyherr

Max is German and came to Switzerland in 2008. He lives together with his wife Tanja and his son Finn. Max studied technically oriented business administration and holds a PhD in economics. His career led him from strategic consultancy to  entrepreneurial engagements of his own in the field of bio-technology, software / internet and alternative energy production. He is a "hands-on" entrepreneur who works with technical partners to develop their projects and inventions into solid businesses. Max loves the mountains, enjoys sailing and is very fond of meeting new people. He considers a good glass of wine together with a nice card- or chess-game to be a wonderful way to fill his spare time.

Events Coordinator: Ermano Bassi

Ermano, 56, with Swiss and Italian nationality, is a multilingual tourism and hospitality manager with keen experiences in leading of luxury hotels and executing high-level congresses. Already as a youth he was working on board a world-class cruise-liner. After visiting and living in more than 100 countries he is very happy and proud to live in Zug/Unterägeri. He has a significant cultural awareness and loves all kind of sports. Ermano was previously an IMCZ member in 1986–1989 and rejoined last year.

Membership Coordinator: Hal Trufan

Hal is an American software engineer with over a decade of experience. He holds a bachelor degree from Clemson University where he also pursued his master's degree. He is a member of Mensa and has many awards and certifications in his profession. His interests include music, weight training, reading, poker, fishing, chess, and ultimate. His original reason for coming to Switzerland was a 3 month contract, however he and his wife have found it an excellent place to live with their three children.

Newsletter Editor: John Hosking

An American born in 1960, John spent his early years in the Chicago area of Illinois and then in Michigan followed by a decade in Houston, Texas, before moving to Switzerland in 1991. He's worked in restaurants and warehouses, but now he's settled down as a "computer guy," doing software testing, release packaging and documentation writing for a software development firm here in Zug. John spends a lot of his free time in the sport of fencing, whether acting as referee, competing in tournaments, or just training for greatness. He's been on the executive committee of the Zuger Fechtclub for some ten years now, and manages their Website.

Webmaster: Phil Woodford

Phil is English and came to Switzerland in 1990 with the intention of staying for 2 years to learn German while working as a stress engineer for ABB in Baden. He studied Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College, London and followed up with a Masters degree in Management also at Imperial after a 10 year stint as a consultant engineer with WS Atkins in the UK. He met and married his wife Jilly in Zürich in 1992 and his sojourn in Switzerland has now reached 20 years. They live in Neuheim and have 2 children aged 14 and 11. Since 1995, Phil has worked in the field of product lifecycle data management (PLM) and has held various positions at engineering enterprises and consultancy companies in Switzerland. He now works as an independent PLM consultant. In his free time Phil enjoys family life, skiing and hiking and is hoping to develop new interests in bowling and golf through the IMCZ.


Board Member: Paolo Arend

Paulo is from Brazil, but also has roots in Germany. He is 32 years old, is married and has a two-year-old daughter. Paulo has been living in Switzerland since 2006, working first for a Brazilian pulp and paper company and now for an international steel trading company. Previously, Paulo lived in Belgium, Holland, Germany and of course in his home country Brazil. Paulo's interests are languages, different cultures, and strategy. In his spare time he enjoys movies and computer games and is always willing to organize a friendly tennis match with fellow club members.

Board Member: Roger Brooks

Roger is a dual citizen (USA/CH), who moved to Switzerland from Florida in 1992 with his Swiss wife, Margareta. He began his work with computers in the punched-card-era. After earning his Professional Engineer's license in Washington DC, he worked as Engineer, Engineering Manager and Quality Manager in both the U.S. and in Switzerland. He now works as Solution Consultant for Compuware, an American software company, where he has advised customers since 2001 on the use of software to manage project and application portfolios, processes and quality. He joined the IMCZ in 2007 and is also a member of IEEE. His other interests include investing, multimedia and nordic walking.
