International Men's Club of Zug

Board 2007

President: Peter Sproston

I arrived in Switzerland in 1980 on a 3 month contract which, like Topsy, just seemed to grow. Having met my dear wife and persuaded her to ruin her life almost 30 years ago she nevertheless had the grace and goodness to change my life immeasurably for the better and even rewarded me with two fine boys, now young gentlemen. After a few years and a management diploma I started with Taloca AG (holding company for Jacobs Suchard) before starting work as a banker with UBS (SBG in those days when it was still a proper bank) in the trade finance department. After 7 years there in trade finance I moved on to BHE bank in Zurich to head up a trade finance team before being promoted to the front office. After another cheerful 7 years at BHE I was approached by Glencore to head up their trade finance dept. which I did for a few years before switching to MRI as, you've guessed it, head of trade finance. After over 20 years in trade finance and a couple of university degrees & diplomas in banking and finance, I decided to become independent again. After almost a year of that I was asked by a board member of Kolmar Group AG to see them about taking over the trade finance dept. there. As the company culture was much closer to my own idea of how a company can and should operate, I decided to take the offer and have been happily ensconced there since 2006. After gaining an LL.M in international trade law in 2007 my role at Kolmar changed again but still kept me within the trade finance sphere to which I have become so accustomed. I was brought into the IMCZ by John Stuart whom I have known since I came to Switzerland and with whom I still play golf under the auspices of the IGSZ of which we are both founder members.

He has been Managing Director of APEX Computer Technologies AG – a software engineering firm now in Zug – for 22 years. His wife Carol is Vice President on the Board of the Zug International Women’s Club for 2009 and Secretary on the Board of the English Teachers Association of Switzerland.
